Roast Hogget

On a very hot Sunday afternoon in June, a Sunday roast is on the horizon.

My dining companion & me concur that, despite the searing temperatures, we shan't be bothering salad today.

The reason is that we're headed to one of the very best eating places in north London to enjoy their weekend offerings.

The friend, who is treating me today as an early birthday present, has no doubt that it will be the Roast Sirloin of Shorthorn Beef landing on his half of the table today. I was also leaning towards this but then something else caught my eye on the menu ..

Roast Hogget Lamb Rump, Slow Cooked Breast.

A hogget being a lamb that is between one & two years old. Never tried this before & knowing that it will arrive with an accompanying Yorkshire Pudding, I am sold. Also joining this plate of joy , Roast Potatoes, Roast Root Vegetables, Spring Greens & Mint Relish.

There is a different taste to that of lamb. It's a deeper, richer flavour but still has that sweetness & it was so tender, too. With the crispiness of the best Roast Spuds in town, it was the perfect collaboration. The veg - not forgotten or neglected - it's just that my mind was fully focussed on the main event.

Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer, regardless of the weather, it's hard to beat a traditional roast lunch like this.

Did I mention the Cauliflower Cheese?

Oh.Glorious.

For another time.
