Pie in the summertime? When it's 32 degrees?
Absolutely.
100%.
Especially when it's a chance to celebrate a belated birthday with a dear friend.
So then, to here .. in Mayfair .. an inn has stood here since 1423.
The menu had been perused & considered before the early evening visit. By me, obviously.
It was such a steaming day in London Town. A walk from Piccadilly Circus to the restaurant was fine & there was a slight breeze in the late afternoon. Still .. It wasn't an easy stroll. Respite in our arrival.
A very friendly welcome. Every member of the team had a smiley & cheery "Hello, how are you, come on in .."
There was no swerving from the pie option for either of us.
No starters - fruitless pursuit because - well, pie was coming.
Steak, Kidney & Mushroom to be exact.
THE SIZE OF IT.
Let me repeat that ..
THE SIZE OF IT.
Glorious. Fantastic chunks of meat, mushrooms & the most amazing kidneys. The pastry - perfect.
There were chips & mash plus carrots & broccoli but, be under no misconception, the pie is the hero.
It doesn't need a cape.
