Day two in Cornwall & there's a ferry trip in the offing.

We're off to St Mawes and our lunch location is here:

For me, there's always a frisson of excitement when taking to the water. It's a twenty minute trip this morning, the sun is out & there's the prospect of a pootle around the Roseland Peninsula.

There was a moment of choppiness on the journey there - best friend got a little nervous - we were seated outside on the small ferry & she sat where there was nothing really to hold on to. That situation changed quickly & she moved next to me where there was a railing.

It's a lovely place, St Mawes, & very walkable. There was a market taking place in the community hall & so we decided to take a peek. Hmmm .. some curiosities, jewellery, second hand clothes and crafts were on display but with a loud barking dog, we didn't tarry. Instead, it was time for a pre prandial at a nearby pub:

This was a great find. A wonderful interior with tables outside plus a good looking menu. We had to be elsewhere though so, it was a quick half of lager & lime.

At St Mawes Hotel we were led upstairs to a beautiful sea-themed room. A window seat with a fantastic view across the harbour.

To business.

On the Specials Board was Cornish Mackerel with Potato Salad & Capers

Sold X2

To share, Falmouth Bay Scallops, Wild Garlic Butter, Samphire & Pangratatto (Toasted Breadcrumbs)

My word. All delectable, both of us were greedy for what arrived on our table. The mackerel was the star for me.

Back timing to perfection. The friend had an Espresso Ice Cream from the front. I declined. No room. Then we were on the ferry home to Falmouth. Still a small swell in the water but not enough to deter from the memory of a fantastic lunch in St Mawes.
