Don't Try This At Home
I’m on a mission …
I want to like Tofu. Or rather, I want to cook it so I like it here in the UK. When I was in China there were so many different kinds of tofu and mushrooms, and they packed in the flavour and served it with a variety of textures.
But here - it seems there’s only one kind of Tofu … and that has the texture of an unset crème brûlée. Not nice at all. It’s down there in texture and flavour with jelly fish. Never ever again will I eat jellyfish. Never. Ever.
So then … I had this bright idea. Can you cook Tofu in an air fryer?
(Searches online) Apparently yes. You press the Tofu to get rid of the excess water - not found how to do this properly yet. More research needed. Then marinade cubes in Soy, Ginger, Pepper, Salt, Cumin. Air Fry for about 20 minutes.
Only - it didn’t work.
So don’t try this at home. I must have done something wrong. It just came out with a dodgy texture again.
So … into rescue mode … into the oven and baked it for a phenomenally long time … keep checking, keep cooking, keep checking etc.
Eventually though, it got there … firm and spicy. Smothered with Tonkatsu Sauce (Made from mainly tomatoes, prunes, dates, apples, lemon juice, carrots, onions, and celery.)
Did the Air Fryer help? Really not sure.
However - the Quest continues.
