A Pint Of Prawns
Mary Poppins was a fan ..
"And then we go to the fishmonger's, I think, for a nice Dover Sole and a pint of prawns." ..
I have been searching for the history behind this quintessentially British pub favourite & it's not easy to come by.
Has it enjoyed a revival in recent times or has it simply always been around but sometimes neglected.
The last pint of prawns I relished with mayo to dip the beauties in alongside was here near Royal Oak in West London:

I'm also an admirer of their no nonsense house rules:

Back to their crustaceans which were sweet & succulent. The unfettered joy stays with me of freeing them from that pint glass, then taking the shells off, discarding them before plunging them into the mayo. There wasn't much chatter around the table in the upstairs dining room. We were all too busy with, well, business. Dipping bowls with lemons & many napkins were employed after half an hour.
Talking resumed.
I'm with Mary Poppins on cherishing this very homegrown eating affair.
I'd rather hope that she'd be instrumental in clearing & tidying everything away afterwards though.
