The Heat is Off

The Heat is Off

Here in North Wales, we never quite got as hot as down south … in fact we got nowhere near.

But - in comparison to normal temperatures in these here parts of the world, it was extraordinary.

I think it got to about 30 degrees C at its height, but the sea breezes brought the temperatures down somewhat, and there are certainly benefits to living on the top floor to make full use of them.

Even so … it was hot. For about a day or so.

So …

Off to the beach.

Actually by accident. After a busy morning at the coal face, I needed a change of scene so stepped out into the still humid warmth. It was a wall of heat. Almost too much. And then suddenly a bus appeared … with aircon.

But where was it going? End destination, about as far as you can go on Anglesey. Didn’t want that … but it got to Menai Bridge and I thought, ‘I rather like the coolness of the aircon,’ so I stayed on …

…. to Red Wharf Bay and I thought … ‘not ready to get off yet.’

Benllech - that’s far enough. Trotted down to the beach and bought an ice cream.

The humidity broke into fully fledged rain by then.

There was something just perfect about eating the 99 (with flake), hood up watching the families running for cover off the beach, the damp whippets looking stunned as they always do, and the couples sitting in their steamed up cars in the car park, peering gloomily out.

They must have thought I was mad.
