I must say I am not as familiar with Greek food as much as say, French, Spanish or Chinese.

So I always find Greek menus a little challenging, and usually have to ask ‘what’s that exactly’ and get an answer which is a bit vague and unenthusiastic. Which is a little frustrating, especially when you want to eat off the beaten track.

It was refreshing to find on one of my mega-walks along the coast, a very revelatory menu on the side of taverna in Sidari, north Corfu.

It left very little to the imagination and in fact was a pretty good basic recipe book at the same time.

I do agree with AMM though when she asks ‘what’s a Greek salad called in Greece’ and wonder whether or not ordinary Greek people are eating something spectacular behind closed doors away from the prying eyes of tourists.

So .. passing ‘local’ restaurants .. I do tend to stare. Looking to see what real people are eating, and how.

I have come to the conclusion that most local Corfu residents liked to eat basic .. what we call ‘Swper Chwarel’ in Wales - a fry up, with chips, and a glass of tea.

Works for me.
