Hogmanay - Lang May Yer Lum Reek

Behold The Pie

It translates as ‘may you live a long life’ and literally as ‘long may your chimney smoke.’ ..

Hogmanay in Fife.

A present from Father Christmas means that on the 30th December lunch was taken here:

What a way to say farewell to 2021. It was the best of everything, from the setting to the service to the food &, of course, to the company.

Have I mentioned the pie yet?

Oh. The. Pie.

For two.

It came with Buttered January King Cabbage.

Pink Fir Potatoes were also ordered by another at the table. I resisted, knowing that I just needed to concentrate on the magnificent pie & sweet, succulent cabbage otherwise it would be game over.

Quite simply, the best pie I have ever had. Short pastry, thick & unctuous stout gravy, tender, tender beef & an unexpected but welcome taste of a Star Anise.

When the Inn is open, there's a different pie on the menu every single day &, woe betide your timing because when it runs out, it's gone. Ours went into the oven for 40-50 minutes once we'd decided upon starters about which more to come very shortly.

We ate most of the rich, glorious & luscious winter treat. Some came home with us.
