I am trying to love Cottage Cheese.

But my indifference runs deep. It was a signficant part of my childhood. My mother - who was a doctor - was always on a quest to lose weight and used to eat massive amounts, every day. As I child, I would try it, and took an instant dislike to it. What was there to like? It’s still a question I ask.

But it’s good for you.

It’s a bit of a superfood. Cottage Cheese is fresh cheese, without the aging and ripening which gives it a cheesy flavour. It’s made from the curds of milk. It’s low in calories, high in protein, sodium, Selenium, Vitamin B12, Calcium and Riboflavin. Low in carbs.

What’s it good for?

High protein but low calorie, so it’s great for losing weight. It also helps you feel full. It’s calcium content can also help with weight loss. It can build muscle mass - if combined with resistence training. It can ward off diabetes, helps with bone health, and can increase antioxidents in blood.

Yeah, but … the taste … or lack of it.

Which makes it ideal as an ingredient, rather than a starring role.

Use it anywhere you use milk - in pancakes and waffles, granola, smoothies, scrambled eggs and lasagna.

Add to fruit salads, salads, spread on toast.

Essentially it needs to go with something with a strong taste.

But worth persevering, because it’s just so good for you. Sigh.
