Throwback Thursday: Berlin

One of the odd things about the whole Covid-19 thing, has been that while it often felt as though life had come to a halt, time has also flown by.

Looking through some old photos I realised that one of the last trips AMM and I made together was Berlin two years ago. How did that happen?

Needless to say it was a bit of a culinary whirlwind tour. Starting inevitably with a sausage and a beer..

I was already in Berlin, and met AMM from the airport. Whisked her via the hotel to the Siegessäule for an introductory beer, sausage and mustard. And it could so easily have stayed that way had it not been for the foresight and forward planning of AMM who had booked us into a fabulous fish restaurant called the Seaside Fish and Seafood Bar. Currently only doing take-aways it seems.

Now….. at first glance of the menu you might be mistaken for thinking you are in Skegness, but that certainly wasn’t the experience. It was elegant and germanically efficient. Amazingly friendly and perfect for whiling away the evening, people watching and savouring some fantasic food.

Any concerns that - because Berlin is 749km from the North Sea - the fish availability might have been limited was quickly dispelled. Plus, they actively encourage you to peruse the available fish, with a little internal fishmonger area.

Sadly I don’t recall exactly what we ate … but I can guess. Many prawns, a fish and shellfish platter. A particularly fine wine I do recall. I think we started with cocktails. AMM may well have the details.

I miss travelling. I miss discovering fabulous restaurants

I miss Berlin too.

Especially the sausages.
