Festive Jars II
Apparently we have the Mesopotamians to thank for the unbridled joy of pickling.
Four thousand years ago they had the idea of putting cucumbers into a brine solution to preserve them.
Cleopatra & Julius Caesar were big fans. So the story goes, anyway. No way of fact-checking that.
I embrace the shorter days at this time of year. Not everyone does, I know but, being in the kitchen listening to the wireless or to my choice of tunes makes me happy. The lights are on. The oven's on. I can hear the buzz of the central heating & on a particularly cold evening, the electric blanket will also be on in preparation for bed later. This gloomy & distinctly chilly Sunday afternoon sees me finding cheer in writing cards & wrapping some bits & pieces for presents.
Among them, three jars of goodies for my Godson.
