T'was the Monday before Christmas
…. and not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
Quite shocking really.
Moved on from Totnes. Now in Penzance, and out to have a lovely meal in one of my favourite pubs, the Turk’s Head. (Scallops for starter, cod wrapped in Serrano Ham and creamy risotto, followed by ice cream. Oiled by a Rioja).
But hold your horses… they’ve been taken over by an even bigger chain, and the landlord is leaving in the New Year. Such a unique place. Who knows what it’ll be like next year. End of an era?
…. but look..
It’s the Monday before Christmas, and this should be full. But cancellations and demur walk-ins have meant that there are a handful of customers - possibly even more staff than customers. How can any business survive this?
Even without the buy out … wondering how many of these very fine establishments, packed with character, and frequented by loyal local customers will still be here in a few months time.
Imponderable questions. Scarily realities.
Oh.. the Reindeer with a mask? In olden times it had a sensor that triggered a carol when you passed by. Not any more.
