Lyon - La Capitale de la Gastronomie
Lyon has big skies - Big & beautiful ever changing skies.
I had no idea about the heavenly heavens until I arrived. Each day & night brought new wonders above to gaze at.
The main thing that had drawn me to this city initially was that it has the reputation of being the French capital of gastronomy.
After a long & leisurely meander in the morning sunshine, it was lunchtime. Map close to hand, always, today’s port of call was Café Comptoir Abel.
Looks lovely doesn't it. A perfect setting.
The menu made me beam.
Two entrées, a sensible option I thought but, then, what do I know?
A local specialty, I went for the Foie Gras to start. It was a huge slab with crusty bread & butter as its mate. I knew I shouldn't eat all of it because some eating room needed to be left. I ignored myself & left a clean plate.
Then the Salade Lyonnaise landed on the table.
I should have listened to myself earlier. It was a bumper bowl of green goodness, croutons, hammy bits & a poached egg which flowed forth, announcing: "I'm here now, so deal with it."
A carafe of Beaujolais was the other guest.
Post-lunch, it was a slow saunter back to the hotel. Didn't stop beaming the whole way home.
