Lyon - Qui est Monsieur P?
Expectation & trepidation.
Robert knows that I have no sense of direction. I mean, none whatsoever, but he's like a Bar-Tailed Godwit - Google it.
The first full day in Lyon & the main task of the day is to find the location of the restaurant where I have booked for lunch. I've been looking at & printing off the street maps for weeks. I have the Lyon City Card (transport, museums etc ..) which should be near the top of your 'to get' list before you head away. Good value.
The day welcomed a cloudless sky though & I wanted to stretch the legs & explore by foot. What a pleasing walk it turned out to be. I tried not to gaup too much at the wonderful buildings. I never like to look like a tourist when away from home. It's probably obvious that I am one in this city though because of my dress sense (i.e. bereft of chic). This is a great place to walk & it's big. Very big. It's the third biggest city in France (I enjoy a stat).
No one was more surprised than me that, after a forty/fifty minute stroll, I found Monsieur P. I wanted this moment to be acknowledged somehow, a certificate or some such.
I beamed as I entered this haven.
MENU
I did the double on the meat
Asked the waiter for wine recommendations, he gave me two to sample
Went for a couple of glasses of a red Bourgogne
Smiley, satisfied face
A raspberry fluffy, sweet meringue & shortbready delights (not ordered, just arrived at the end of the meal, gratis)
A slight twitch of his eyebrow as I didn't take him up on the offer of a coffee to finish proceedings
Wonderful lunch
The enigma that is Monsieur P is very clear about the grape:
"As a good, self-respecting epicurean, I am a lover of wine."
The 'P' for Monsieur P must stand for 'parfait.'
And I found my way back to the hotel. Did the double that day.
