I'm just back from being on your tour with an orchestra, hosting three concerts in Portsmouth, Truro & Poole.

From home & back, more than 600 miles covered &, in between, some wonderful beach walks in early Spring sunshine.

I don't eat much on the days when I'll be walking onstage in the evening - nerves etc ..

So, when Sunday came around & my official duties were over, it was time to dine well. A return visit to Southbourne.

This is my third visit & once again the food was perfect & the service friendly & engaging.

Three of us first spot Pigs in Blankets on the menu. For me, the decision was already made for the main event. First though, oysters.

Pickled Oysters with Bloody Mary Sauce - 12 of the beauties to share.

Fantastic texture, plus there's sweetness & some warmth from the sauce. Devoured within minutes.

Back to those P-I-Bs. I had questions for our server ..

"How big are they?"

"About this size." (Demonstration using hands)

"How many come as a side serving?"

"Two."

For three, how many would you recommend to share?"

**THINKS**

"Hmmm, I would say get four, they'll be plenty."

She was right.

To accompany our trio all plumped for Roasted Free Chicken Breast with Bread Sauce, Roast Potatoes, Seasonal Veg (including Celeriac & others cooked on an open fire), Cauliflower Cheese & Gravy.

Some fizz & an English Cabaret Noir which was a red revelation for everyone.

We couldn't contemplate pudding which was a shame but tums were full & we were utterly happy.

A cab back to our temporary home for the night where we watched Ghost followed by Silence of the Lambs.

Odd combination, still, naps were taken as the films played. For me, there were restful dreams of Pickled Oysters & fat, crispy & juicy Pigs in Blankets.
