Venison & Chestnut Mushroom Pie

Out and about in between Christmas & New Year.
A chance to meet up with a couple of friends for a bite to eat at lunch at one of my favourite places ..
https://thebullandlast.co.uk There's a quick pre-prandial here ..
https://www.thevinenw5.co.uk Apparently, the Oasis lads used to enjoy a tincture here when they started out.
Then we walk 10 minutes up the road excited to be together & looking forward to some good food.
To begin, one of the friends spies a Fish Board to share.
We're all in & here's what landed on the table ..
House Cured Gravlax, Brown Crab, Whitebait, Smoked Mackerel Paté, Deep Fried Cod Cheek, Pickled Cucumber & Fennel Salad, Soda Bread.
A glorious way to start the afternoon.
One chum is eyeing an Onglet Steak whilst myself & the other pal have spotted a pie to share for two.
Oh. Hello.
Slow Cooked Wild Venison, Old Spot Bacon & Chestnut Mushroom Pie, Winter Greens for two.
Sides of Triple Fried Chips for all.
I think it's quite possibly the best pie I've ever tasted. Good pastry, excellent meaty filling & packed with flavour & seasoning.
I also loved the big spoon which arrived to serve the pie. I was Mother & did the honours.
No dessert was required as we were all full.
So ..
Some Sticky Toffee Pudding to share between us with Ice Cream.
Honestly .. I could tut at myself.
Didn't though because, well, you know ..
Happy New Year.
