How to Boil an Egg - 2025

Sometimes I do feel a bit of a pusher … for Air Fryers that is.
This week has been somewhat of a revelation, and made me realise I haven’t even started on my Air Fryer pathway.
Bumped into a neighbour in the stairwell who was wavering over whether to get an Air Fryer, and of course I was effusive on the spot so she wandered off to get one. I should point out that she was forced into the outlay by her microwave blowing up quite spectacularly.
And that was that, I thought, until a knock came to the door. Said neighbour was raving about her new purchase sayig how marvellous it was. Her parting shot - which made me stop in my tracks was - ‘And you make Boiled Eggs in it.’
What? Won’t they explode?
Intensive research followed and yes… it’s true. You can ‘boil eggs’ in the air fryer, though technically it isn’t true as there is no water involved. You simply pop them into the tray and cook for ten minutes and hey presto. 8mins for soft boiled, 14 for hard boiled. Plunge into cold water to stop them overcooking.
I’ve done it several times now and they come out just as I like them. Not all is green in the garden though, they are a devil to peel, especially if they are fresh. and the membrane goes a curious bruised colour. But …
Other unlikely tings you probably think are impossible in an Air Fryer include - Welsh Rarebit, Pasties, Scones, Lemon Drizzle Cake, Roast Garlic and Lasagna.
Always follow the recipe - there’s a knack to everything.
