Cold Comfort

Summer switched off. Autumn switched on.

Though to me it feels as though it’s three weeks too early. My Mum, who was a great believer in old wives’ sayings, would always say that the weather would change in the third week of September, and it invariably did.

But this year - not so much warm weather in North Wales, and it feels like Autumn has arrived far too early, even though it’s my favourite season.

And with the change to Autumn so too comes the change in eating habits.

A big plate of Bangers and Mash with an onion gravy and a dab of mustard seemed a natural choice.

And that of course prompted a natural drooling conversation about comfort foods. The hastily compiled survey came up with the following:

Cottage Pie
Sunday Roasts
Steak and Ale Pie
Shepherd’s Pie
Meatloaf/Faggots
Beef Bourguignon
Pasta Carbonara
Slow Cooked Lamb Shank
Cheese on Toast/Welsh Rarebit
Stew/Lob Scouse/with Dumplings
Fish Finger Sandwiches
Ham Hock, Mash and Parsley Sauce
Beans on Toast
Macaroni Cheese
Faggots, Mash and Peas
Fish and Chips

I have deliberately not ranked them, because I couldn’t.

I suppose for those with more exotic tastes:

Beef Stroganoff with Knedliki Dumplings
Paella
Butter Chicken
Gung Po Chicken
Ramen Noodles
Moussaka
Wiener Schnitzel
New England Chowder
Poutine

Enough already. May have to work through the list.
