Celebrate Broad Beans
I can't remember when I first fell in love with the broad bean - or the Vicia faba
All I know is this. It is a solid relationship & that during this time of year I like to have as many of these beauties in my kitchen as possible.
This article then appeared recently which gladdened my soul - broad beans are not just good for you, they're REALLY GOOD for you.

One of my favourite descriptions of this wondrous vegetable comes from Nigel Slater .. he talks about how you take the beans from their sleeping bags.
Young beans, you can almost eat raw as they're so sweet. As they grow a little older, then they can be an accompaniment to a Sunday roast, or to a salad of Ricotta with some mint & watercress, a potato salad & a couple of slices of very decent Wiltshire ham.
Tonight, I have some of them pre-cooked & left over from last night's meal & they're being popped into a Beef Ragù with some Conchigliette.
All hail to this legume. It will make us all better.
In so many ways ..
