A Roast in June - The Bull and Last
It's June & the heating is on.
Don't misunderstand me, I'm more partial to the cooler seasons, but, even I wouldn't mind a bit of summer weather now.
Regardless, a great friend is in town & keen to sample a Sunday roast I've been telling him about for ages.
The destination is The Bull & Last in Highgate, North London.

I have waxed lyrical about this pub and its food before.
The Sunday offerings are particularly exceptional.
Over a pre-match glass of rosé wine the two of us decided that we'd swerve the starters to save room for pudding.
Half an hour later some Soda Bread & Butter was ordered together with Grilled English Asparagus, Burrata, Pea Shoots & Lemon Balm.
Best laid plans & all that.
To the main event then ..
It's Sirloin of Shorthorn Beef, Carrots, Kale, Roast Potatoes,Yorkshire Pudding for the London visitor
For me, Roast English Lamb Rump, Mint Relish, Carrots, Kale, Roast Potatoes,Yorkshire Pudding
To share, a naughty side of Cauliflower Cheese
There was much catching up to do over our lunch but still time to savour every morsel with Hampstead Heath as our glorious backdrop.
Then this conversation occurred after new menus arrived ..
Me: "Think I'm okay pudding-wise .. I'm full as can be .. not another bite."
Friend: "Yes, absolutely stuffed."
Both: "I mean, we can have a look though?"
Next up at the table ..We didn't mean it to happen ..
Bramley Apple & Blackberry Nut Crumble & Vanilla Ice Cream
Sticky Toffee Pudding & Pistachio Ice Cream
A spoon each and then both desserts demolished between us.
Disgraceful.
Wonderful.
My compadre headed to the tube & then on to Heathrow for his Glasgow flight. He was delighted with his lunch.
The sky looked ominous & so I got a cab back to the homestead - equally delighted with the afternoon. Still nippy, the heating went back on for a wee while.
It's only June, right?
