It's day three in Lyon & lunch in a restaurant I discovered on my last visit. This is where, at the end of my repast, I would hear this line:

"Madame, je dois te dire que ce que tu t'apprêtes à manger est du pur poison et tu vas adorer."

In other words ..

"Madam, I must tell you that what you're about to eat is pure poison & you'll love it."

More on that shortly.

I was back here ..

Earlier today I was looking at the last blog I posted for Monsieur P a few years back. I was astonished to find that it had taken me more than 30 minutes to walk there from where I was staying. This time around, from the same starting point, a mere 8 minutes. Perhaps my directional sense is improving over the years.

Doubtful.

The restaurant can be found at 8 Place des Célestins & on the same square which is home to the majestic building, Célestins, Théâtre de Lyon.

Lunch is booked for 1215.

There's a really warm welcome & I'm taken to a table with flowers & a view of the square which is bathed in the November sunshine.

A glass of Côtes Rousseau is ordered. Once again, it's the set lunch menu which draws the eye. After ordering then the first culinary surprise of the afternoon is set upon the table.

Onion Velouté & Brioche with Onion Butter - Silky soup with crunchy crumbs on top. The bread was so light, crispy & buttery, I could've swooned.

Then to follow ..

Bouchot Mussels, Yellow Zucchini & Vadouvan (a kind of French Masala) That warm & spicy sauce was poured over the tender mussels. Time to be back on the red meat for the main event which was ..

Simmental Hanger Steak, Corn & Elephant Garlic

To complete it was a selection of Local Cheeses

The food, the service, the location - this is my favourite place to eat in Lyon.

Oh, & what was the alleged 'poison' I should not touch because I would adore it? It was simply the best, the richest, the most sublime Egg Custard Tart in the known universe. It was delivered by the waitress with a huge knowing smile which told me everything.

Post le déjeuner, a chance to walk in the old town, Vieux Lyon, before taking a chance to cross the Pont Bonaparte and head for the Rhône for an early evening stroll to catch the last of the sun.

C'était très bon de vous revoir Monsieur P - merci beaucoup.

I'll be back for that Egg Custard Tart alone.
