Local hero at Nottingham Railway Station, David Herbert.

And, so it came to pass, the 0612 train from Nottingham to London on the hottest day of the year did runneth.

I'm pretty sure it was the only service between those two destinations operating that day. I was lucky.

Here's the story if you haven't seen it already. I was stranded and turned to curry for comfort.

In the wee small hours I packed my bag at the hotel, (I'd taken extra bits & pieces to wear in case the heatwave scuppered my journey, always prepared,). So then, that was me out & about on the streets of Nottingham at 0530 hoping for a train home.

There it was on Platform 7a. There was a free seat. There was me, a relieved & happy girl.

This is usually a 1 hour & 40 minute trip. Today, we were told we'd be getting into St Pancras just before 0900.

Time wasn't an issue for me, thankfully. Then I heard a fellow passenger say to a member of the train crew: "I'll have the sausage sandwich with brown sauce please." ..

As the snack trolley passed by me next, I found myself uttering: "Ditto for me please." ..

It was the business. 4, yes 4, sausages in a warm, buttered ciabatta with both brown & red sauce on the side & a napkin. Plenty of water was distributed to all of us on board as well.

I was greedy with my breakfast, thank you EMR & thanks for getting me home.
