Radish Challenge
As per challenge from AMM in the last podcast.
“Do something with Radishes… but not a salad".
Challenge accepted.
After a dodgy start, this actually turned out rather well. I needed a quick lunch, and after a brief bit of research came across a host of radish recipes including Roast Radishes, but thought that might take too long. Brown Butter basted Radishes. Nah. Sticky Duck with Pickled Radishes, nah nah. Salmon stuffed with cucumber and radishes. No salmon.
So.. borrowing from the recipes, in a mix’n’match sort of way, I made the following.
Fried radishes with chorizo sausage, garlic and spring onions. Served with a dipping egg.
It was delicious.
Roughly cut the radishes, and fried them with a little butter and finely chopped chorizo.
Add in the chopped spring onions, keeping back the ends to sprinkle on as a garnish.
The (enormous amounts of) garlic goes in last. Fry until the Garlic begins to brown, then serve around an egg. I ate mine with some oat cakes too.
Yum.
Radish facts:
We have been eating them in the UK since pre-Roman times. But they probably originated in south east Asia.
Full of Vitamin C, and good for gout and high blood pressure.
Mexicans celebrate the ‘Night of the Radishes’ on December 23rd. Sculptors create nativity scenes using radishes.
The pyramid builders were paid in garlic, onions and radishes.
If you dream of radishes (I never have) it signifies business success and kind friends.
