I should have been at the cricket today.

At Lord's for England v Windies.

The first Test Match of 2020.

Covid put paid to it.

The day would have started at that most hallowed of grounds with a bacon butty round about half past nine. So, today, I'm cheering myself up by making one at home - I rarely do this.

To start, it's good Green Back Dry Cured Bacon from the local butcher. A free-range Blythburgh pork.

Here's your breakfast right here:

Heat a non-stick frying pan till your hand can just hover above it

No oil should be needed if the bacon's good

Bacon goes in (you choose how many rashers)

Let it crisp & don't bother it too much

Bread (dirty, thick white slices or a posher number, a roll with seeds etc ..)

No butter required, you have the juicy & crispy residue from the pan

Bacon in the bread

Sauce on (let's not debate which is best, we know which one rules)

HP

Eat greedily

There will be noises

Wipe the plate with forefinger

One of those breakfasts that you're glad no one else can see you eat.
