Friends II
City rivalries.
Berlin vs Munich
Boston vs New York
Barcelona vs Madrid
Sydney vs Melbourne
Glasgow vs Edinburgh
Glasgow. I like the heartbeat of this city. Straight talkers.
Two friends I love very much, & have known for an age, live here. I've been fortunate to spend much time with these chums over the years. One, a Dundonian, the other, a man of Newark. We've had Christmases together, Hogmanays together, holidays together, weekends together.
And RM & AB have introduced me to some great places to eat, too:
Crabshakk - Crab cakes or the bisque.
Mother India - Haddock with Puy lentils & lemon or smoked lamb with broccoli & green chilli.
Number 16 - Roasted haunch of Perthshire venison or Scottish scallops.
Hutchesons City Grill - Black Angus Porterhouse steak or whole lemon sole.
Every weekend there are messages flying back & forth between us on what the menu plans are at home for the next two days. The details are comprehensive; ranging from where the fish or meat or veg has been bought to who's cooking what, and, what the accompanying drinks will be. Sometimes there are photos.
Here's just one of the countless reasons I wouldn't be without these two in my life.
Arriving at my hotel in Vancouver, they had organised for a bottle of local fizz to be waiting for me in the room.
My heart swelled.
