Aberdeen Anxious
Working with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. The RSNO is performing in some of their many musical homes, one of which is the splendid Aberdeen Music Hall.
A Sunday afternoon concert with musical offerings by Vaughan Williams, Shostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Malcolm Arnold. Travelling there the day before, I wanted to find somewhere interesting to eat where, as 'Ms Solo', it looked like being a relaxed and comfortable place to be in. I found Moonfish in the Merchant Quarter right next to the magnificent St Nicholas Kirk.
The online pics of the place - cosy, inviting. The food sounded fantastic - roasted skate, beef with broccolini & garlic, home-made breads & butter.
And gin. Gin. There was a gin menu.
I was sold.
A warm welcome, a good table, a Botanist gin cocktail to start, Private Eye to read, & then a smoked haddock, peas, truffle risotto to begin. I'm not a massive advocate of the Italian staple, three spoonfuls & that's me done, but this was just the right size portion and light & tasty. The main event was lamb rump with a crumbed sweetbread & greens. Everything, flavoursome. Everything. It was a busy evening in there, the staff were exemplary. I left a happy, full, smiling customer & slept the sleep of the content.
