Farewell 2020
This time last year I was headed to Fife for Hogmanay with two of my dearest friends.
We were staying in St Monans in the East Neuk district.
There's a church there dating back to 875 where St Monan was buried. Not much is known about St M except that a shrine was established to him & also that David II King of Scotland made a pilgrimage there after being wounded in battle & surviving. To give thanks he ordered that a church be built on the site. The holy place has quite a history, too. It's believed that women accused of witchcraft were imprisoned in its roof before meeting a terrible end. Oh, & Johnny Cash played a concert there singing Christmas Carols after almost being killed by his pet ostrich. Andy Williams was there as well. This is a true tale.
There's a wonderful restaurant in St Monans where we had a feast - Craig Millar @ 16 West End;
See the menu
The owner & chef is also very entertaining on Twitter.
I hope to be back with my wonderful chums in 2021 & to revisit Craig Millar's. The food, service & wine are exquisite.
Here's to when we can all be together again.
Amen to that.
Happy New Year.
