As someone who does not have an instinctive sense of direction, I do, & most importantly, need a map. A paper version or one on a phone.

In Bologna, JW & I shared the duties of navigating. Sometimes though we defied the outlined route & went our own way or, to put this another way, took a wrong turn.

One of the main destinations for us both was here ..

https://www.bolognawelcome.com/en/places/shopping-places/the-old-market-in-the-quadrilatero?

It was so near to where we were staying as we eventually discovered. Three days of searching. I mean, what's that all about?

Two people with an inherent lack of not knowing where they're going on unfamiliar streets. Two wanderers navigating strange streets without a clear destination. There was no fixed plan.

But ..

It was well worth the endeavour. Every moment of uncertainty paid off in the end.

The thrill of finding amazing stalls of fish, shellfish, vegetables, fruits, pasta, oils, vinegars & cheeses - well - it was just wonderful. The joy of discovering these vibrant stalls brimming with good things to eat was extraordinary

There's something about food markets in any place I visit in the world that I find captivating. Something about the energy of food markets around the world consistently draws me in.

We ate well that afternoon.
