A Friday evening out in London Town.

Unusual for me but there are tickets to see this at the Barbican ..

I had no idea what to expect from this tale of a father & his two young daughters moving from Tokyo to the countryside to help their sick mother recuperate.

It was wondrous .. beguiling .. utterly magical .. dazzling & by far the best production I've seen in a theatre for years.

Originally a film & now brought to the stage by the RSC & composer/pianist Joe Hisiashi.

Before heading to Silk Street, post-work, it's time for an early supper.

Rosemary & sea salt focaccia

Roasted pumpkin ravioli, oyster mushroom, sage brown butter

A Fino Martini

Vodka, fino sherry, sweet orange, orange oil. A bone dry martini with salt and aromatics – served ice cold

Plus a glass of ..

Perricone, Tenute Orestiadi 2021 Sicily. Mulberries, sour cherry and a whiff of dried oregano and sage & a medium bodied wine.

The service wasn't quite as sharp as it has been on previous visits .. nonetheless ..

The food was, as always, exquisite - particularly the pumpkin ravioli in that luxurious, buttery sauce. I emitted a happy sigh taking the first bite.

It was the perfect start to what turned out to be a stunning evening at the theatre ..

See it if you can. The puppets & the live music steal the show.
