Jul 17 A Sporting Sunday

An unexpected family lunch in north London.

Sis and her other half are in town for Wimbledon but, before heading home to Nottingham on the M1, there's a chance to catch up over some food and drink in a very nice hostelry ..

It was a massive day in the sporting world. Tennis at SW19 and the 3rd Ashes Test Match at LS6. Headingley.

The tennis was already showing on the TV in The Angel (sound off) but there was a question asked: "Do you have Sky Sports?" ..

The answer was negative but, no matter.

I'm awaiting a new oven at the moment so was tempted to have the full on Sunday roast. There was a meal awaiting my companions back home in Nottingham so they were in grazing mode. Here's what landed on our table

Charcuterie Board - Italian cured meats, olives, chargrilled artichokes, sourdough bread

Crispy Calamari - Saffron aioli

Sausage Roll - Homemade & one had been spotted being delivered to another table & thus duly ordered

Padrón Peppers, extra virgin olive oil, Maldon sea salt

Rosemary & Parmesan Fries with white truffle-infused oil

Drinks for all of us .. A shandy, Prosecco (extra dry), Pinot Noir & a Hibiscus Refresher - El Jimador Blanco tequila, Cointreau, Fever-Tree Pink Grapefruit Soda, Hibiscus, dried lemon

Time then to part after two of us had kept a beady eye on the cricket action via the internet. Lovely, lovely to see them both. Now I was headed home listening to the Test Match on my phone (forgotten the headphones).

A crucial moment was reached. England needed less than 50 runs to win the match. What to do. Continue journey home or ..
