Sheekey's Chic
A return visit to one of my favourite seafood restaurants in London.

There's a cousin's birthday (which includes a zero) to celebrate belatedly plus a fifty five minute opera down the road at the Coliseum.
Yes, fifty five minutes.
There's a quick craft cider for the cousin & a light rosé for me beforehand in Covent Garden here:

Onwards then to the restaurant which has been shucking oysters since the Victorian age. It's a Prime Minister we have, in part, to thank for Sheekey's being established. In 1896 Lord Salisbury gave a local stallholder, by the name of Josef Sheekey, permission to serve fish and shellfish in St Martin’s Court. There was a catch .. J Sheekey was asked to cater for the peer's supper parties post-theatre trips in London's West End.
On our menu this evening, something to share to begin ..
Sea Bream Ceviche with blood orange kombucha & taro root chips
For the birthday girl, this is the main ..
Miso Glazed Sea Trout with Asian greens & dashi
For me .. time to revisit one of my favourites ..
Shrimp & Soft Shell Crab Burger with Korean spiced mayo
Chips to share
No time for pudding.
Or is there?
A question to the maître d': "Our show starts in forty minutes, do we have time for Bramley Apple Pie with custard?" ..
Maître d': "Let me see." ..
Two minutes later & he returns with excellent news: "The pie is in the oven & will be with you in ten minutes." ..
Massive smiles.
We made the opera in good time for curtain up.
I'm ashamed, just slightly, that there was a 'napette' taken during the short but engaging performance.
Blaming the dark theatre, the comfy seat, the pudding & most of all the sumptuous custard
