Piccalilli Circus

The kitchen at home is resembling a farm shop at the moment in the best possible way.

You see, the pickling & chutney-making and mulling have been well underway.

I'm now running out of storage space.

The last of the Kilner jars are to be filled this weekend.

Room mates?

Once you make your own you'll never bother with shop-bought again. From the vibrant colour provided by the turmeric & the English Mustard Powder, to the still recognisable veg in the jar, there's so much joy to be had before you or your friends or family have even twisted the lid.

It's a really satisfying few hours making this. Like most recipes, I've adapted this through the years. The amount actually makes 4 half litre jars & I now leave the vegetables & the salt overnight because it results in a crispier & crunchier piccalilli.

As the festive season draws ever nearer I'm already thinking what to have in the fridge to accompany the spicy, sharp & satisfying relish.

Pork Pie - A given

Cheese - Ditto

Smoked Ham - Ditto

Turkey Sandwich - Yep (might be a Boxing Day breakfast)

Just putting that out there.
