Bonjour Lyon Encore

It's been a while since I've been back in France.

Four years in fact.

Covid lockdown.

My last trip away from Blighty was in the wonderfully enchanting city of Lyon.

To be frank, I was a little nervous. Ridiculous, I kept telling myself, I've travelled all over the world & many times solo. It's just regaining confidence about being a visitor in a foreign land once more. Robert sent me some very useful links to French language courses so that I could refresh that particular muscle.

There's a very early departure from home to Heathrow T3. Really early, however, this helps to dissipate any anxiety clouds.

An hour later & the BA Lounge beckons.

Sausage, scrambled egg & mushrooms for me. Oh, & an English muffin (buttered heavily). A comforting start to the day.

The flight is on time & you can't beat a Captain's welcome on board.

My theory is that if they weren't flying planes, they'd be on the radio. Some really enjoy making the announcements to passengers. You know the score .. it's flight time, the weather, the route, the "sorry for the delay we're just awaiting freshly ground coffee to be loaded & then Johnny & Helen will be looking after you in the cabin after we're away .. sit back, relax .." Etc ..

Love it, it's all part of the flying experience for me.

We're away. There's gravadlax, capers, red onions & fresh, warm bread on offer & despite breakfast some three hours ago, I'm up for it.

A glass or two of fizz. It's holiday time.

An hour & a bit later, time to say ..

Bonjour Lyon encore.

Three restaurants are booked for lunch over the coming days.

I just have to find them.

Je suis arrivée.
