J Sheekey
Maybe I am trying to shake off the January blues but I have eaten out three times in less than a week.
Mainly successfully. One you may have already read about. I'll get back to you regarding the disappointing affair last night.
First, some optimism which is much needed in these wintry days.
I'm due to attend a screening of a new film which I need to see ahead of an interview with the director. The start time is 6pm.
Hmmm, how to fill two hours before then?
Something to eat at one of my favourite places to be in London.

Just me. I love a solo meal with a good book or newspaper by my side.
You're always greeted so warmly here. I had booked online & it appeared that I would be at a counter to eat. No problem but a tad awkward for placing your chattels and getting space for your reading materials. The Maître d', literally, the 'master of the house' was so welcoming & asked: "Would you prefer a table?"
"Oh, yes please, that would be wonderful & I'll be able to read my book!" I answered gratefully.
Before I knew it, I was tucked into a warm & cosy corner table with a glass of Pinot Noir on the way, some warm bread & butter plus a menu that I never tire of.
Eyes bigger than tum. Hey ho.
King Prawn & Avocado Cocktail with Marie Rose Sauce
I was greedy for this - nothing to eat since breakfast - I had one piece of bread mindful that the main course would be on the way
The legendary .. J.Sheekey’s Fish Pie
Packed with salmon, mackerel, smoked haddock & prawns. Proper juicy chunks with a creamy & really satisfying sauce & a crispy, cheesy mash topping. Roasted Carrots with a carrot top pesto as a partner.
Before I knew it, it was 5.30pm & time for me to disappear into the depths of Soho to watch the movie. I was well looked after at St Martin's Court - something as a frequent solitary diner which never goes unnoticed.
Not cheap but sometimes a treat in January does your soul good.
