Christmas Reads
There's always a joy to be had perusing the pages of a Christmas food book on a cold afternoon & making plans.
We've come a long way since Fanny Craddock, not forgetting hubby, Johnnie.
I believe cookbooks for this time of year have changed over the last few years. They seem to be not just about recipes & ideas for your table but, now, also covering how more eco-friendly we can be from wrapping presents to which kind of tree should be gracing your home.
This year I treated myself to the latest offering from River Cottage which is a collaborative Christmas book by Lucy Brazier & Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall

And what a satisfying read it is, too. Lots of great thoughts on winter & the festive season, musings on which veg & fruits are at their peak at this time of year. From Advent to New Year, there are top tips on planning for meals, prepping, cooking & enjoying doing all three. Drinks, wrapping presents, edible decorations & how to get family & friends to pitch in with helping hands.
Most evenings, post-work, the pages of this most pleasing book (lovely pics, too), are being turned with my mind turning to new ways with the traditional.
Rather taken with the River Cottage take on Mulled Wine. It shall be tried.
