Bath Time
In need of some good company & a change of scenery, I headed to Bath for a long weekend.
Food, walks & talking about everything & nothing, the order of our days away.
Friday evening & a last minute cancellation means we get lucky & we get into here: Menu Gordon Jones:
I liked reading Gordon's story. The restaurant has a warm, neighbourly feel to it, not too big but tables are nicely spaced & we enjoyed the soundtrack, (not too loud), of 80s & 90s tunes.
A TASTING MENU in the offing.
Ready?
BREAD & BUTTER - Organic Shipton mill flour & red cabbage sourdough, Bloody Mary butter, Maldon & Maple
BOWL OF SOUP - Purple cauliflower cheese espuma, onion bhaji
PLAICE, SCALLOP MASH - Steamed Cornish scallops & plaice, Bombay mash potatoes, sweet radish, Cornish crab gravy
YELLOW FIN TUNA - Tuna loin & confit belly, Hen of the woods mushrooms, beansprouts, candied peanuts
GAME PIE - Lightly seared Cotswold venison loin & kidney stew, chervil roots, red cabbage, Roscoff onions
CHEESE & BISCUITS - Colston Bassett Stilton, finger millet biscuit, confit onions, raisins, celery
BEETROOT, CABBAGE & BLACKCURRANT - Beetroot sorbet, blackcurrant cream cheese, red cabbage water
SOUFFLÉ - Alphonso mango soufflé, pina colada sorbet, pineapple chutney, pistachio cake
Each course came with a warm smile and a brief description of what we were about to taste.
As did the vino.
We took the Wine Flight to accompany each course with a great selection of drinks from Spain (Albarino), Grüner Veltliner (Austria) & a Nerello Mascalese (Italy) to mention a few favourites.
It was the perfect start to our break away.
