Tables & Tales
A Saturday lunch out with an old friend.
We travel to The Bull and Last, an old coaching inn in North London. The 'Last' comes from when the coachman would reach this tavern exclaiming:
**L A S T **
As in, this was the final stop on the journey into London until the next day.
There's a book of the pub's stories, (locals, hounds included) & recipes to be had (From November 5th).
Upstairs we begin with a glass of Bull & Last Vermouth - tastes of Christmas
One of the favourite bites here is a homemade, warm Scotch Egg with an amber, soft yolk & side of English Mustard
#SOLD
Two ordered but my pal has to finish half of mine - I needed to leave room for what came next:
A Steak Sandwich in a baguette nicely packed with pink, juicy slices of meat plus gherkins & leaves (I took one half home to finish the next day)
Salty & slender chips on the side with garlicky mayo
For my companion it was Roast Cod with chervil & chanterelles plus big, fat thrice cooked chips
A bottle of their Tap Wine - Primotivo, Domus
And another to follow
The sun was out as we looked out over Hampstead Heath - a bonus warm gift from September.
