FAMILY III
A weekend away to see the Nottingham branch of the family.
There was a lot to pack in for just the two days of assignations including four meals.
I was pacing myself on every level for what was to come. I had to have a chat with my digestive system to warn it what was lurking around the corner.
Restaurant bookings + keeping folk happy with various menu choices = military precision required (aka back timing & diplomacy).
Before the Saturday gatherings there was a Friday night curry. It was just the Kent Uncle & me who'd travelled there together. Destination Calcutta Club.
On our table for the evening was Goan Fish Curry, Punjabi Karahi Chicken, Basmati Pilau Rice & Garlic & Coriander Naan. A feast.
An earlyish start to the new day. First stop was breakfast.
Rendezvous No.1 - The Portello Lounge
There are two back bacon butties for the KU & me plus a full on English Frier for GM who I haven't seen for ages. She loves her food & even goes for a Sticky Toffee Pudding post-bacon, sausage, beans, fried egg, hash brown & mushrooms & tomatoes. We salute her & then head away.
Rendezvous No.2 - The Air Hostess
A pub lunch with JW & CD & this is a story to gladden the heart in these days of big business. Known as the 'Stess, this is a community pub in the heart of Tollerton village bought & saved by the locals when the parent brewery company wanted to sell it off.
The G&Ts are ordered as the menus are given attention. The choices for the quartet? Breaded Brie, Scampi, Chips & Peas (Garden but Mushy are available, this is Nottm after all), King Prawns with Chilli & Garlic x2. They do a Chip Butty here but that will be for another time. Space would be needed for:
Rendezvous No.3 - The Paris Bar and Restaurant
All day I kept my portions small & ahead of the evening but, even so, thank goodness for a (brief) break.
Four of us here for the French fayre, (JW & CD depart to get back to walk Dolly the dog), so it's KU, PA, CA & me. I dodge a starter hanging on for a main of Fillet Steak with Chips & Salad. Around the rest of the table, there's a Sirloin ordered plus a Chicken Supreme & a Pork Belly.
We all retire away to the hotel bar for a nightcap.
At midnight I finally hit the hay, tired but happy & satisfied that the day went well. Stories, memories & lots of laughs.
It's been a good couple of days.
It was a big sleep on Saturday.
