The reminiscence of a journey by rail.

My favourite railway station is St Pancras. Partly because of the magnificence of its architecture. My word, to think it was facing demolition in the 1960s. God bless you, John Betjeman. This man led the campaign to save St P from the demolition rotters. It's the most stunning building & thank you, too, William Henry Barlow for designing it.

Here's the thing, St Pancras has reinvented itself for a new world but kept its dignity & history. Future lessons to be learnt here in my humble opinion.

St Pancras also signifies home for me. Nottingham - another noble railway station. Over the years, I have done much toing and froing from Nottingham to London for job interviews or, in younger times, there were day trips with school (Pompeii exhibition) or a surprise birthday journey with a boyfriend (Evita). London is home now & whenever family & friends beckon from that part of the world I find myself back at N1C 4QP.

Before boarding the train there might be a glass taken at the Searcys Champagne Bar where, on some occasions, the service doesn't live up to the backdrop.

All aboard

Every time I make this trip there are many memories which crowd my mind.

The prospect of knowing that Nottingham Castle will be pulling into view in an hour or so means it must be time for a cheese & tomato cob.

Did I mention that there's a jukebox at St Pancras?
