Quick trip to the bookshop in Xidan, a few stops on the Beijing subway from Shijingshan.

A bright cold day. I lingered in a Starbucks in a shopping mall that specialised in high end fashion clothing.

There was an electronic billboard advertising the new film with Matt Damon, The Martian. About a scientist who finds himself stranded on a red planet, far from home and in a hopeless situation.

Now - why did that speak to me?
